December 2 update: there is now a #callahans mailing list for the discussion
of policy issues. While we're working on them, I feel that barring *new*
offenses someone thinks are bannable (rather than merely annoying--use
/ignore for those, please), regulars should not be banned from the channel.
This is on the reasoning that once we *have* a policy, we're going to start
fresh with it, not apply it to past history.

October 14 statement:
Okay, so... there's been problems with Celeste. And I haven't been able to be around on hours she was on channel, mostly, since I became aware of the situation, so I haven't been able to deal with the disruptions on the spot.

So, what I'm presented with is that all the regulars who *are* around at the time, feel she should be banned.

So, while I'm personally opposed to banning regulars, banned she is, for now. It's taking more time than I reckoned on to put together my personal view of Callahans to explain why banning regulars is really unacceptable to me.

I'm working on it. In the meantime, the ban will stay. Once I've written up my idea of a #callahans policy, I'll put it up here on my web page. At that point, one of three things will happen. 1. I'll take down the ban on Celeste. 2. I'll step down as manager. 3. I'll have a revelation and decide that such bans are okay. I don't like either of 1 or 2 and consider 3 unlikely, but there we are.

I'm always glad to hear from people. The more the better, actually, to see what the spectrum of ideas is. Feel free to e-mail me, Tink (the other channel manager), or both of us about this.

I'm sorry for the lack of action on this... life off-line has been hectic. I'm not sorry for my principles, though I regret that I've not been able to communicate them better.
