Christian Coalition founder Pat Robertson loves to tell his followers he is waging a "holy war."

The skirmishes include the Super Tuesday primaries on March 12, when Republican convention delegates are up for grabs in five Southern states. All four leading GOP candidates trooped to a Coalition rally in South Carolina on Feb. 29 where Ralph Reed, the group's executive director, predicted that members would account for one out of five voters in those key primaries. Just as the Christian Right helped fuel the Republican takeover of Congress two years ago, it may now wield great influence over who becomes the GOP nominee.

But the Coalition is fighting on many battlefields: It wants to amend the Constitution to provide for prayer in the schools, ban abortion, kill off public broadcasting and support for the arts, and control the flow of speech on the Internet.

A third of all the members of Congress already vote their way. So who are these people and how are they affecting us? We tell you all you need to know about the Coalition in this special investigative report by Amy Virshup -- including how televangelist Robertson has used his bully pulpit to build a vast financial empire and become a multimillionaire. Read a sampling of their views as set forth in the Contract With the American Family. Look at a map of the states where they have the greatest influence. And compare the words of Robertson and Reed, the crusade's leading lights.
