Fr. Bill Watson, SJ, of Georgetown University in Washington, views the visit in a historical context
and believes this Pope is one for the ages.

"History has already shown that John Paul II was a major player in the downfall of Communism in Eastern
Europe. History will show him to be not only the principal player in the renewal of Catholicism, but the one who
sparks the reunification of Eastern and Western Christendom and the global spiritual renewal currently in
progress.
"He is a man whose intellectual vision, indomitable courage and spiritual integrity will mark him as one of the
greatest saints in the history of the Catholic Church. [Pope John Paul II is] a St. Gregory the Great for the dawn
of the third millennium. May he live to see it happen!"
