Welcome to my Gallery!

"Let them come who wish to come, and let them go who wish to go, and do not harm to me or mine."

Ancient Icelandic Invitation Formula for the Elvenfolk

Welcome, friend! Here you will find a small collection of my works, mostly unpublished elsewhere. Although I tried my hand at illustrating "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Silmarillion" , most of my works were not meant as illustrations to this or that particular passage in Tolkien's text. Rather, they are meant to be spiritual, symbolic representations of his ideas as I understand them, or deeper images upon which he drew.

I tried to make the best of my low-resolution scanner, but the quality of these scans leaves MUCH to be desired. As my artistic speciality is graphics, the original pictures contain a lot of finer details which didn't come out altogether. Click on a picture to see a larger image (or an enlarged fragment). Descent unto Arda Manwe and Varda The Straight Path

I believe that in transition from hand-written books to printed ones we have lost as well as gained.
These pages are from a medieval illuminated manuscript, a note on Eldar:

The following two pictures are connected with the story of Numenor , Saint Brendan's Voyage and many other things, references to which may be found in Notion Club Papers, published in Vol. 9 of HoME.

 "...The things I have seen, the many things,
          have long now faded far;
       only three come clear now back to me:
          a Cloud, a Tree, a Star."
                   From "The Death of St. Brendan"
